Loyal Order of the Moose
The Loyal Order of Moose is a fraternal and service organization founded in 1888, with nearly 1 million men
in roughly 2,000 Lodges, in all 50 states and four Canadian provinces, plus Great Britain and Bermuda.
Along with other units of Moose International, the Loyal Order of Moose supports the operation of
Mooseheart Child City & School, a 1,000-acre community for children and teens in need, located 40 miles
west of Chicago; and Moosehaven, a 63-acre retirement community for its members near Jacksonville, FL.
Additionally, Moose Lodges conduct approximately $50 million worth of community service (counting
monetary donations and volunteer hours worked) annually.
Additionally, the Loyal Order of Moose conducts numerous sports and recreational programs, in local Lodges
and Family Centers, in the majority of 44 State and Provincial Associations, and on a fraternity-wide basis.

The Moose Legion is known as the "Degree of Service". The Moose Legion is a fund raising unit of the Fraternity.
Dedicated members of the Loyal Order of Moose continually look for ways to provide even greater service to our
children at Mooseheart and our senior members at Moosehaven while having fun doing it.
The Moose Legion provides a venue for enthusiastic members to direct and lead special programs that accomplish this
fraternal mission.
To be eligible for this degree, a candidate must be a lodge member in good standing for 1 year and sponsor 1 new
member into the fraternity. A member can also qualify by being a lodge member in good standing for 6 months and
sponsoring 3 new members into the fraternity. Once completing these requirements, he must then be sponsored by
a Moose Legionnaire in good standing of that jurisdiction.
The Moose Legionnaires wear the burgundy jackets of distinction.

The Pilgrim Degree is the highest and most coveted degree of the Order. The " Degree of Merit", is conferred on
roughly 150 to 200 Moose members each year, and only once a year, in a solemn and impressive ceremony held in
late May or early June in the House of God on the Mooseheart campus. Only those who have compiled an
outstanding record of meritorious service to the Order over a period of many years receive this distinction. Pilgrims
are entitled to wear the gold Pilgrim jacket and tie, and the Pilgrim lapel pin. One of the most colorful rituals in the
Moose is the Pilgrim regalia presentation ceremony.
The Fellow is a 'Degree of Honor" conferred only upon Moose Legion members who are specifically called to receive
this Degree. This honorary Degree comes as a reward for outstanding service rendered to the Order, and is a much
coveted mark of distinction.
To be eligible for this degree, a candidate must be nominated from their lodge. Candidates must meet the
following requirements: 1) Have 5 years of continuous membership in the Loyal Order of the Moose. 2) Have 1
year membership in the Moose Legion 3) Sponsored 1 new lodge member in the past year and 10 new lodge
members during his membership, or 5 new members in the past year 4) sponsor 1 new Moose Legionnaire during
his Legion membership. Besides the minimum requirements, a Moose Legionnaire must have rendered other
outstanding service to his Lodge, Moose Legion and other units of the fraternity.
All recommendations under consideration must be held strictly confidential. A breach of confidentiality may
jeopardize the degrees of all the parties involved including that of the nominee.
Receiving the "Degree of Honor" is a significant reward for a job well done. To know it was worth the effort, all you
need do is view the pride on the faces of Moose Legionnaires wearing their French-blue Fellowship jackets for the
very first time.
